Better Representation
The previous logo represented a time in KGI’s history when only one program existed. In the past decade, we have established new facilities, programs, and goals. With that, we needed an identity that better reflects our vision.

The market for higher education is more competitive than ever. As such, the new KGI logo will keep our brand from feeling stale or out of touch.
Research revealed a consensus that the previous logo showed room for improvement. Our new logo is simple, memorable, timeless, and versatile. The brand platform emphasizes the opportunity for KGI students to discover career pathways in applied life sciences and healthcare.
Number of people who participated in the brand perceptions survey and interviews that begin in April 2017. The quantitative portion included an online survey for students, faculty, and staff. On the qualitative side, interviews were conducted with prospective students and industry leaders.
Number of people involved in the logo feedback process after the research revealed a consensus that the current logo showed room for improvement. Once logo concepts were developed, students, faculty, and staff shared feedback at several town hall sessions, while prospective students and alumni contributed their input through surveys.
Number of logo concepts considered during the process. Feedback was collected from September through December of 2017, before the logo change was presented to the Board of Trustees in January 2018. When the official launch arrived in August 2018, the final duration of the project was 16 months.
Navy is a shade of blue. Blue is associated with intelligence. It helps improve concentration and stimulates thinking and mental clarity. Navy is a color that is linked with confidence and shows persistence.
Aqua is a shade of blue that lies on the scale between blue and green. Its characteristics are a blend of both…the calmness of blue combined with the growth of green. Aqua contains the energy of yellow, making it an uplifting color.
Red is associated with energy, strength, and determination. Red has an effect on our physiological state, and it attracts attention more than any other color.

In order to promote consistency in the way we present KGI, use this editorial style guide as a quick reference to answers about abbreviations, capitalization, punctuation, and grammar. For example, KGI uses the serial (Oxford) comma; never call KGI by the name of "Keck"; and always say "Riggs School" instead of "Riggs" as the abbreviation for the Henry E. Riggs School of Applied Life Sciences
